Hi, I'm Adam, a graphic designer living in Minneapolis and working in St. Paul at the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

My work ranges from illustration and logos to print layouts and web design. Below are a few examples, contact me if you'd like to see more.

MnDOT Fun Facts

Illustration

MnDOT has over 5,000 employees, ranging from engineers in central offices to maintenance workers in truckstations. I illustrated twelve animations to help these employees learn a little more about MnDOT.

The animations are a part of both a longer video and an e-brochure designed to teach new and old employees information about MnDOT that all employees should know. The animation topics range from how the commissioner is appointed to where the first stretch of interstate was constructed in Minnesota.

I sketched out a variety of ideas from brainstorming sessions to come up with the final animation designs and sequences.

It was decided early on that the animations would be still graphics moving around the screen, which made illustrating the aniations vary strait forword. Based on my sketches, I illustrated the scenes and passed them on to the internal MnDOT video department to add motion and the voice-over, and to include in the full video.

Along with being posted on the internal MnDOT website for all employees to view, the animations will also be shown during new employee orientations.

MAASTO

Website redesign

The Mid America Association of State Transportation Officials re-branded their organization and I created a new website to complete the new identity.

For the new design I simplified the color scheme to allow color to signify important information on the page. The original site had a fixed hight background, which I chose to replace with a background that would adjust to content as needed. This also openined up the page, and allowed more negative space within the content.

After initial sketches, I re-created the designs in adobe illustrator to easily adjust colors, modify and re-arrange content and quickly compare layouts. Once the final design was chosen, I exported necessary images and coded the site in XHTML/CSS.

Minnesota State Fair booth display

Animations, touch display interface, graphics and webpage

MnDOT utilizes a booth at the Minnesota State Fair to distribute information about roadwork, how the department is spending tax dollars, safety and to distribute the latest Minnesota highway maps. I created an interface for a touch screen display that would allow visitors to watch animation I created about Smart Lanes, Roundabouts and other new technology that MnDOT it starting to implement.

The MnDOT booth is staffed by volunteers from across the state that work very differnt jobs, from plow drivers to office workers, and because of this the display was an important tool for all the workers to be able to distribute the same imforation to the public.
